Leaders - Visioning
Written by Ingit on May 15th, 2008“The greatest achievement
was at first and for a time a dream.
The oak sleeps in the acorn;
the bird waits in the egg;
and in the highest vision of the soul
a waking angel stirs.
Dreams are the seedlings of realities.”
~ James Allen, 19th century English writer from As a Man Thinketh
All of us are leaders in one way or another. Notwithstanding this, there are good leaders and mediocre leaders. The latter mainly react to immediate events and fight fires. They have small plans. But good leaders make big plans. All good leaders are driven by vision. They are not satisfied with the status quo. So what is vision?
Vision is a portrait of a preferred future. It is a clear mental picture of a better tomorrow. Vision is seeing the invisible and making it visible. The picture is internal and personal. To realize this vision, you will eventually have to paint this mental picture inside others. Look for like minded people to cast the vision. And there will be followers because people long for leaders to give them hope, to show them where they should go.
Ingredients of a Vision:
1. The picture is clear
2. The change will be positive
3. The focus is future.
4. The inspiration is intense
Once you have captured your vision, you must find ways to communicate it to those who want to partner with you to fulfill the vision.
Casting your vision:
1. It needs a strong beginning
2. Only one theme
3. Use simple language
4. Use pictures
5. It needs a strong ending
What’s your feeling now?
Start dreaming, imagining, visioning …. for a better tomorrow
